Music Ministry
The Music Ministry at DeHaven Baptist Church exists to lead the congregation in meaningful worship, through music that exalts the Lord, edifies the believers, and evangelizes the lost. Songs are selected both for lyrical content that is Biblical and musical content that allows for maximum communication with and participation by the congregation. While being solidly rooted in the heritage of Evangelical Protestant hymnody, we also embrace the best of modern Christian songwriting.
Congregational singing is the foundational ministry of our music program! Even if you do not have the time to participate in one of our organized ensembles, we trust that you will enthusiastically join our largest and most important ensemble, the congregation! God’s Word is clear in stating that He expects His people to sing.
Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, and His praise in the assembly of saints. (Psalm 149:1)
. . . Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
(Eph. 5:18b-19)
We want all to participate as we “sing unto the Lord” and “make a joyful noise unto the rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1).
Other ensembles include:
The Sanctuary Choir rehearses every Wednesday from 8:00 – 9:15 p.m. In addition to providing leadership for the congregational singing in all Sunday morning worship services, the Sanctuary Choir frequently presents anthems from a variety of musical styles. The Sanctuary Choir also prepares extended programs for Christmas, Easter, and other special events.
The Instrumental Ensemble provides the opportunity for youth and adults who play band/orchestral instruments to assist in worship leadership. This ensemble occasionally provides support for congregational singing, and prepares selections for offertories, preludes, and “special music.”
The Sanctuary Choir and the Instrumental Ensemble provide the foundation for other small ensemble and/or solo opportunities.
The future of the music ministry at DeHaven Baptist Church includes a graded choir program ranging from preschool through high school, a handbell choir, and a greater variety of opportunities for participation in vocal and instrumental ensembles.
